    recomend me an amp...

Hi, i dont know very much about ice, so ecuse the lack of knowledge.

Ive a mk4 astra van which ill be using for work, and getting bits for projects.
The van has a pretty good JVC headunit, and i have an amplifier wiring kit, and 12" FLI sub, and a box lying un-used.

I thought i might aswell get a cheap second hand amp and some rear speakers and make use of what ive got.
I want the amp to power the sub, and rear speakers.

So what kind of amp am i looking at? 4 channel? (sorry i cant be more specific giving power ratings and freqency ranges of the sub etc, but in this aplication im really not that bothered, its a big empty, van with factory sound deadening lmao) I just want a bit of an upgrade over std, and some bass

well i got an alpineV12 amp which sounds the dogs and has a cool little display on it but not sure if it would power rear speakers i dont think it does tbh but i would recommend it if you could run your speakers through the head unit

my thinking was that the van doesnt have rear speaker wiring, so would be easier to power the rear speakers from the amp (as ive ran the amp wiring already) and the sound would be better

As i said i dont care what make it is, as long as its cheap and works

I have always used Pheonix Gold amps but if I was going to buy new amps now I'd buy Genesis, a little bit pricey but worth the money

im not looking for a model as such, just what to look out for (how many channels, RMS power output etc) As it will be second hand

I'd say 4 x 100 watts rms should run a sub and set of rear speakers with no problems

just make sure if your going to use 1 amp to run 2 sets of speakers and a sub that it supports that mode, tri-mode i think it is, so you can set/adjust the crossover and filters for each channel used

i only user cerwin vega and phoenix gold amps and subs,

but i tend to only run 1 set per amp for components and seperate amps for subs

i would ditch the rear speakers, and get a little mono or a 2 chanel amp to run the sub. then if you think you need to then change the door speakers

I only plan to run the sub, and rear speakers from the amp, fronts will be powered by the h/u

it would be best powering the sub from a seperate amp.. D class amps are the best for bass

    Re: recomend me an amp...

I'd go with a 4ch amp which is rated at 4x 50w rms minimum, 4x 100w rms would be better but not an absolute must....

Use front ch's to drive rear van speakers & rear ch's bridged to drive the sub....

Check out my sticky for basic amp settings & tuning technique....

A perfect amp for this application would be a used JBL GTO4000, or try E-Bay for caraudio&security, they sell them new at around £50....
if it sounds right to you, then its right.

A 4ch amp driving three speakers, (Left, Right & Sub), isn't running in 'Tri-Mode' configuration...

A 2ch amp driving three speakers, (Left, Right & Sub), would need to support 'Tri-Mode' operation... This involves the 2 ch's driving left & right speakers whilst also being bridged to drive a sub... The use of inline resistors of varying size ensure each speaker receives the correct frequencies....

    A pic....
if it sounds right to you, then its right.

ive got 2 ,2 channel amps in my car, i use one 1600watt bridged for the sub and i got a 200 watt one for the back speekers.
the advantage of that is you can adjust the levels independently so if i got too much bass i can turn down the sub amp an turn up the mid speeker amp.
plus 2 channel amps are cheap lol

I have a similar setup. A two-channel amp powering the sub and then a four-channel amp for the comps up front. I think it's better than having one amp, as I can turn the bass down (or off if mother is in the car lmao) but still keep the comps at the same level.
