    Radio Question

I've got a problem with my lock barrel, which means my radio turns off when I go over a speed bump etc. So, as you may be able to imagine this is pretty damn annoying, so I'm planning to manually wire in a switch instead of the ignition 12v.

So on my ISO connector, could I take the constand 12V, split it, and attatch it to the ignition 12V connector? (adding a switch between to control it)

    Thanks in advance

    unless somone's re-wired it.

I would try and trace the wiring. if it looks standard then yes, its from the fusebox
    but sounds suspious

even then, when you go over a speedbumb, there may be a loose connection somewehre which may be just incidental to your lock

if you wiggle/bang your lock, does the radio go if? if so its a wiring to lock issue if not its somethng else

    Re: Radio Question

Nothing else turns off, just the radio.

I know what the problem is, its the barrel lock sits a little loose in the barrel it sits in, so any sudden jolt means the radio turns off and back on again. The bigger problem is I can't replace the barrel as it won't eject from the steering column (long story).

Hence my radio needing to be manually controlled instead of ignition controlled.

So to do this, what wire needs to go from the fusebox to my 12v ignition?

Sorry, electrics certainly aren't my forte

Edit: This is what I was thinking (meant to stick it in the first post)

    Re: Radio Question

See, what I dont get is why "just" your radio is switching off.

I would have thought, when you are effectivley turning "off" your ignition the car should die and at the very least other electrical items.

Its VERY rare to have only the radio wired into your ignition circuit directly?
The radio needs to be on a fused circuit, hence why I said you will need to remove the radio and trace the wiring and see where it goes.

BTW, I dont remember the procedure but it should be in the manual.

You can SET your radio to STAY on only unless you switch it on /off from its switch and not the igntion.

Its something like you press a button on the radio and keep it down turn on the ignitioj and that does it, its in the manual that came with your car.

what radio is it. I could do a search on goodle for you, failing that it MAY be in my manual (which is in the car) otherside of the car park...

    Re: Radio Question

It's very strange isn't it, I've lost count of how many people have looked at it, including a fair few auto electricians.

The wiring loom is all 100% standard and not fiddled with, but I havn't got a stock radio, it's an aftermarket JVC KD-G701. I've also tried a few different radio's, all have the same problem.

Everyone that's had a look at it says the problem is wear on the barrel lock, the radio should be on from position I, II and III and shouldn't turn off when switching between them. The problem isn't that the barrel doesn't stay in its position, its that its loose inside that position.

I've been googling this for what seems like forever and I'm not the only one with this problem:
