| MIGClub Member | Re: installing a alarm in my calibra your question is quite complex, i am not sure if i can answer that in a simple way. It depends on your budget, and wheather you have any previous knowledge of car electrics, some basic ideas of how a car engine works and what can be done to immobilise, and some ideas on how most car alarms work, and what is the best option for you, you as the owner should decide what fits your pocket, and getting a very simple alarm can be as efective a s a complex one too, that is because not all thieves are clever, most are idiots, so even a simple switch cutting a fuel line off can prevent most from stealing your car, on the other hand you could get one that dials your pager or your mobile when your car is being broken into and a silent alarm signal is sent to you via text message, so you could be in a restaurant bhaving a meal and someone could be trying to stael your car so that you can deal with him red handed, and then there is the ones that are insurance approved but might not be any good, as most comercial alrams the thieves know how to beat them, so if you install a simple hidden switch somewhere the thievs would loose all their hair scrathing their head!! And then again you might want a remotely activated alarm, with or without central locking, and auto window windeup etc, immobiliser, so the list is long and options are many and best one s are expensive too, I hope this was of some help!!

| MIGWeb User | i've installed 1 alarm before to my old opel ascona.. it was easy since it had nothing rly.. what i was planning was just immobilizer, something to handle the locking and thats pretty much it.. ofc the usuall alarm system to keep eye on the car.. what i am worried more is that i dont need no complex system to start the car or anything like that u know, just a simple alarm that has maiby a channel for later use maiby? i just dont know where to start with the cali.. the wires.. where to find the central locking wires.. what colors.. .. and can i just simply remove the alarm in car atm.. or bypass it.. no need to remove it rly just to bypass so it wont go on what ever i do. .. does this help in helping me.. please.. thank you so much for helping me bud.. rly nice . -Kai |

| MIGClub Member | Re: installing a alarm in my calibra A good start would be to figure this out through haynes manual, as it contains all the schematics of the wiring and is not too difficult to follow, yes the obvious problem is it does not tell how and where the wiring harnesses run, this you will have to figure out yourself, like most of it is logical layout, for instance the doors have all the wiring going into them for interlocking, window motors, colours are indicated on the schematic, and you could immobilise the ecu control outputs to things like the injectors, coil, and inputs from sensors isolated when the alarm is set off, using relay contacts hidden in an area where the theif will have terrible job to access it! he would give up trying to locate how to bypass the relays, as well as the brain of your alarm can be hidden somewhere behind the dash etc. Most commercial alarms are quite effective and you can install them yourself, add a few of your own features with a bit of injunity, that gets thieves!!, if you take the fuel pump relay for instance, you could disrupt its action through an alarm relay, or you could have a realy contacts open an essential signal from the crank sensor to the ecu, this will stop the engine from starting, make this relay fail-safe, i.e. the relay has to be activated to make the crank signal go through so if the thief cuts the alarm wires off then the relay won't switch back on and the car won't start. there are so many options, however, my own views are that you cannot beat the built in immobilisers within the ecu's as these are real bastard to crack. |
