Cav GSi 20xe starts only when jumped

hi,

after my gsi wasn't driven for a week it failed to start, flat battery i pressumed. After jumping it everything went wrong, the central locking doesnt work and the alarm goes off when i shut doors more often then when anything is opened, it seams random.

i rang the alarm company (sempal) they say to get an autolec out, this sounds expencive.

im at a bit of a loss, has anyone any ideas

the engine is fine just a bit tappety from cold its at 115k

i dont have any history or anything for the alarm but it has plenty of mot and pulls very well when it does go

do the instrument panel light up with the key?

yes it does, all the lights seams normal, the battery light stays on

i dout its the immobiliser as the car starts when jumped.
can you hear the clicking noise when the key is fully turned ?

new battery or fully charge the 1 you have.

will the starter motor see the electics right? or do i still have to get in through the boot? hahaa

i had a fiesta that only worked by that method.
it was funny every-time i had to start it was with a hammer.

should of seen the look on peoples faces at petrol stations car parks and the like. the only thing i was missing was a hoody.

check all your earths.
get a multi meter and check what the out put of the alternator is

i remember my cav doing the same and it turned out that the battery was fcuked and a dodgy earth strap. got it sorted and never had a problem again.

I've read on a previous thread that a dud fpr could cause this as well.
do a search mate.

im pretty sure they do, i remember the fronts working because i closed the drivers window and shut the door with it running and the alarm went off, ill check the backs tomorow

no it came from anglesea as a swap for my 130

i had that problem with my cav as well turned out to be a bared earth strap that was touching the bodywork when the car was running causing the alarm to go off. so get round them all al check none have broken or the rubber coating has disappeared if it has tape it up an all should be good.
