Re: WIP: Astra Xbox media center installation

The standard DVD drive power cable is to short to reach, think i'll give that to my mate at work and ask him if he can make it a bit longer for me.

Still haven't got my car back yet Haven't fitted a fan anywhere cause i'm not 100% sure where it'll fit yet. Once i know i can wire everything up, velcro it all down in place and it should be mostly complete.

Just waiting for my screen and center console to arrive. I've got work next week but hopefully by this time next week it'll be 99% finished (i don't expect to ever get it to 100% )

Re: WIP: Astra Xbox media center installation

USB caddy arrived today, i've formatted the hard drive in FAT32 and NTFS but neither will mount it correctly in evox or XBMC, however my 1gb usb mp3 player mounts fine Looks like there is a 4gb limit to it tbh Not sure if theres anything else i can try to get it to mount properly

Looks good. I may be interested in one day setting up a PC in the car, which would in theory be something similar.

Re: WIP: Astra Xbox media center installation

Right, might seem a small update but i've just spend a little over the past 2 hours doing this.

Added a small fan to the heatsink and back of the glovebox to move a little air. Can't add a large fan as no room to anywhere. To make the whole on the back for the fan i had to go round my sisters to get a larger drill bit (did that a couple of days ago though)

Then when i tried to fit it back in, the fan was hitting the glovebox meaning the whole thing wouldn't go in anymore. Get a drill and steak knife and cut a hole in the back very badly. We are now left with:

(i thought the fan was hitting right at the back which is why i removed so much, turns out only a small amount needed to come out)

Just played halo 2 for a few mins, and when i checked the temp it was at a nice 48oC. Fingers crossed that's cured the overheating problem. When people are playing halo the glovebox will be open to let controller wires through so that should add to the air flow, when i'm just listening to MP3s it shouldn't be working as hard so won't get as hot.

Fingers crossed i'll be able to get everything glued into place soon, then once the screen is in the astra all i'll need to worry about is bodging the steering wheel controls

Almost as soon as i start to crack on my exhaust blows up and car is back off the road again Also all week i've had a man flu and currently have a really really sore throat/cough which is a bit of a motivation drain as well.

Have no work tomorrow so i might "finish" the glovebox section, get everything fitted and glued in place so it won't come out as easily. Need to try shorting out the power wire to see if i can get it to automatically come on when there's power going to it, and figure out which wires are to eject the DVD drive so i can mount a button somewhere in the car.
