The little chip in the ignition key, is this programmed to your car or is it a standard chip.
As my brother has lost his and now obviously can not start the car?
Any idea on costs, can these be brought second hand or do they need to be programmed?

It is programmed to the car.
Most people seem to end up buying a secondhand ECU, transponder and key.

Yeah cheers for that![]()
You can get a new one from Vauxhall - certainly the easiest way.
Depending on the cost (Around 80 quid I think) you can then get a local locksmith to clone it a lot cheaper than vauxhall so you have a spare!
Dont think the Immobiliser is matched to the ECU though, as this started as a 1.4 (x14) upgrade to the x16 (not the c as I thought) and they never changed the transsponder just the ECU when the engine was swapped
I've always been told that the ECU, transponder and chips all have to match or it won't work. I'm sure others have posted on here asking for help with immobilisers and found the resolution to be getting all 3 pieces from the same car.
I thought all three had to match also.

Car is now a x16xe though so the ECU isn't right for the car

This thread died with the Dinosaurs.
But..
If you have the Car pass and access to TEch 2 or an Op com, you can code a new chip, so long as it's the same type.
If the donor has been scrapped, you should be able to get a pass for it.

Seeing a google search hit for this, i thought best register and say hello. It is true that in most cases the Key, Immo module and ECU must be matched. If any part is not matched, the engine may start and cut out, or not fire up at all. In the case of the conversion listed above.. i would think the 1.6 was not an immobilised ecu, or that is was either decoded or cleared ready to assume the code of the car it would be plugged into.
My understanding of the immo1 and immo2 modules are that immo2 must have a pre-configured chip (which you can generally only buy at GM dealer) if to be coded in by tech2 or op-com. I believe the AD-100 will code in a new blank transponder chip pcf7930 or 7935.
How i do these are very different.. immo1 has a motorola micro-controller 705B16, and the immo2 is based on a texas instument TMS375 micro-controller. I have the tools to read the data stored in these units, and with that we can either write the transponder key logic that is already pre-programmed.. I.e. if that unit originally had 3 keys programmed, we can make 3 keys only. And/Or we can extract the security login pin code.
I hope that info helps towards this thread.
Kind Regards
