    Omega stereo wiring....!

    Firstly hello to all,

I've spent much of the weekend round the brother in laws, trying to get a Sony X-plod head unit, amp and sub working!!! Well, probably about 2 hour really as he kept bringing beer out to me!!!

Anyways; I had to go and get a 16pin to ISO cable fromt he stereo to the standard block for the Omega, I then realised that there are actually 3 blocks - I assume, one for speaker connections, one for power and remotes etc and one for the display panel??
I've connected the speakers and the power blocks together but seem to be getting a memory loss and it will only work when the ignition is on. If I remember back a few years when I did this before on my golf with a pioneer HU, I needed to cross the red with the yellow in order to keep radio channels etc..
Now, on the omega end of the connections, I cant seem to see a yellow cable to do it - can anyone help here with what lead from the car end do I need to cut and connect? I assume that a bullet type connection will be ok if I'm cutting the wire??

Also, running the RCA's from behind the glove box to the back of the stereo - it's not looking like I can acheive this without taking half of the dash out! Is there an easier option??

    Many thanks in advance
    Nafe

normally the sony head unit would have bullet connections in it already for this purpose, you need to switch the permanent and switched live feeds. The manual for the head unit should indicate which wires to use. Bullet connectors will be fine for joining the wires. As for the RCA's, personally I'd remove the glovebox, make a hole in the back, run the cable through the hole and refit it - you'll need to use a bit of stiff wire to get the cable to where the radio cage is though, but it can be done - what model year is the omega?

for all vauxhalls you need to swap the red and yellow lives around - you do this on the head units harnes, not the car harness or ISO adapter, and they hould already have bullet crimps on there so you just unplug them - swap them over. only 2 of the 3 car blocks are used, middle and bottom. the top one is for the display. For the RCAs remove glovebox and do it from there.

Ok, excellent - i shall do this tonight! When I looked to take the glove box out at the weekend, I undid two screws which were as you looked at it open, they were approx midway down either side of it. Are there any more that need to be undone?

    Many thanks for your help

yep, best to disconnect the battery neg lead first though ... as there are three torx bolts that fix the airbag cover in place which need to be removed, then you can lift the bottom of the cover up and access 2 more glovebox screws. Then remove the nearside air vent and remove the "hidden" screw that the Haynes book of lies doesn't tell you about
