the same amp was used to run about 4 sets of components, all the others worked perfectly and 2 sets of them are still working now nearly 3 years on, the amp was set up perfectly but the speakers 'in my opinion' werent good enough. in the Infinity price range there are a few better sets of components that i would choose long before i went back to Infinity.
as for JBL, yes for the price there not bad. but you get what you pay for. i found them to give what i would call a 'dirty' sound as opposed to comps such as pioneer or the vibe ones ive just got. these give off crystal clear sounds right throughout the musical range, the bass isnt so deep as to wobble, and the treble isnt so high pitched as to hurt your ears. its as if the JBL's cant go quite as high or as low as other speakers. but i suppose thats the difference between £50 and £100.
the Alpines i just didnt like. there not a bad speaker and there currently in my gf's car (along with some JBL gear). i just didnt find the middle and low end clear enough but the high end noise to be very overpowering. this could probably be solved by moving the tweeter but with them in the std position i just didnt like them.
another BIG thing ive noticed - speakers that sound amazing on the stereo wall in Halfords dont usually sound that good in a car.
