hi
got a mate with a new astra(56 plate), and he's asked me to stick his nokia carkit into it. does anyone know if there's a socket of some form under the dash or in the footwell to make connections to the speakers or power easier?

I'd heard a rumour a while ago that some higher spec models ended up being fitted with the phone loom whether it was ordered or not! You can check if there is a phone loom in there by pulling out the glovebox and looking for the connector. Should be an 18 pin plug and the only spare under there if it's present.
Either way, the easy option is to fit a telemute kit from autoleads, which harness in to either the pre-wiring or the back of the radio depending on which one you buy and conveniently come pre-terminated for Nokia car kits!
or fit an after market head unit that has to be better than the standard Grundig unit's then you will have an ISO head unit loom and car kits will be easy to fit.
The easiest way to install telephone handsfree kits is with an audio loom from the likes of autoleads or www.dashmount.co.uk for example and this is regardless of whether or not the car as ISO plugs or not.
Manufacturers now make leads for all cars, for bose stereo's and for harmon kardon upgrades in the likes of BMW and range rover.
If you want it to be easy order a lead from dashmount and it will plug and play.
