Hi
Still having problems with the astra's alarm - before going out and spending on guessed parts, is there any tool like an obd scanner or tech 2 scanner that will highlight any failings? Anyone in manchester who can do a scan?
Thanks.

Whats wrong with it?
When I die, I want to go peacefully like my Grandfather did, in his sleep -- not screaming, like the passengers in his car.
Im guessing its the alarm dongle
From previous posts and a bit of a google, the issue seems to be a dodgy powersounder - random/intermittent alarm going off, sometimes dropping the roof, windows, open/close the bonnet/boot works, other times the car is fine for a week or 2 then, like this weekend the alarm has been a nightmare, going off anywhere from 5 seconds to 8 hours after each reset.
Sounding like the powersounder battery thing, which I have read you can split and throw some new batteries on (ignition se to on during battery change phase to not need tech2), or obtain a new unit from Vaux (which I assume needs 'marrying'/tech2 to the car if it is a new unit)
My area of expertise is Saab, I am getting more excuses to spend the cash on a real tech 2 (not an ebay ripoff) with 2 cards - one for the saabs, one for the astra!! Gotta love GM eh?
Thanks for the quick responses!

Don't spend money on a tech2 session. It will be the power sounder.
The unit is reasonably cheap from vaux and its a ten minute job to fit.

Does sound like the power sounder. Unfortunately the only place that i knew that stocked the batterys don't do them any more, they might have a couple left but not many if any. Its a dead easy job, just jack the passenger side up, two torx screws to remove the wheel arch trim and you should see it. two more torx screw to remove the alarm then simply remove the plug. Once its out, if you can get hold of batterys then you need to cut along the centre line to expose the insides. I just replaced mine as a whole as mine had leaked battery fluid all over the inside. Mine cost £57 from Vaux.

Thanks guys, If I replace, do I not need to get the car to recognise? Or is it the same as the battery method, ie having the ignition switched to on and there is no need to marry?
Thanks again (incedentally, until i get a replacement, can I just disconnect the sounder? Will this cause problems?)
