    RAC Invisishield - Worth it?

    http://www.rac.co.uk/web/racshop/inv...561AF356E9E51B

just come across this, seems like a brilliant idea but anyone know if it's any good? may seem a bit pricey but it could mean the difference between getting your car stolen or just broken into

not an original idea. Seen other companies that use wee touch keys tho this does at least seem better hidden and subtle.

yeah i know its not original, i know a few people who have got hidden switches around they need to flip before they can start. But like you said this is hidden and subtle, plus you could have it anywhere you wanted, so you could even have it some where really subtle like by the fuse box/door card and nobody would even know you were using it

i get the logic behind it but i wouldnt know where to begin on making it lmao

would'nt that method mean that if you were driving along and pushed it by accident the car would shut down? could turn into a right mess if you take your keys out to swipe the magnet and then the steering lock comes on lmao lmao

Thanks for the link though, think i'll research into it a little bit

    EDIT

Just read the rest and yes it would shut down (should finish reading before i post )

it depends what you make it kill tho say if you make it kills power to the starter motor then it wouldnt matter if you hit the button and it runs off of a magnet so i ges you could have a little peace of magnet in door card a theff wouldnt think of waving a magnet all over you dash lol but i gess if you could build it and put the switch were it couldnt be knocked accidentely it would be a great little thing to have well a lot better than what the rac are chagging for the same thing lol

do you think the magnet in your phone would be enough if the reed switch? (never heard of one before now lmao) was under something thin like a peice of fabric? or just poking out?

could mean simply putting your phone down next to the handbrake like normal? Doubt it would be powerful enough though. I got a few ideas in my head now where it would all look factory like, just need to understand how relays and the like work

im not to sure weather a phone would do it but you can get them little magnet things for the back of your phone that hold them in your car i had 1 before so i gess if you stuck one of them on the back of your phone it should work

It can't be THAT hard to solder a few bits together can it?

From what i understand (read as - just googled how a relay works and only read a couple of lines lmao) inside the relay is an electro magnet, when you supply power it closes the circuit and when you remove the power (turning the magnet off) you close the circuit?

From looking at that diagram though it looks like theres more than one circuit? wish i had listened in science class now

think im gonna have to be getting hold of that program you had in school to test circuits and the like oh well looks like i've got myself a little project to be getting on with lmao

lmao gone sliiiightly off topic here but on the plus side you may have just saved me ALOT of money just had a look at the bits needed and shouldnt come to more than about £15

This is clearly going to take me a while though, maybe i should ask dom or jack for some advise lmao

My understanding of a relay (could be way off) is that when you turn on one circuit with a small current it is used to turn on another much higher current circuit using electromagnets. so when you say you see two circuits that's because you need both of them for it to be a relay, as the smaller current is used to switch the larger current on and off.

Ian - Relays can work either way..power on or power off to do the job. Depends on the type of relay used..

I've been giving a lot of thought to something like this..should be a doddle to do. Reed switches are fun.

The advantage of a "home brew" one is you could take your pick of the effect...cut the fuelpump? Cut the starter? Ignition interrupt? Horn sound on starter? Only you'd know what you did.

and yes, I wouldn't pay £200-odd quid for it..a few quid for bits maybe.

    Big problem
Your led on dash will lead them straight to unit
I fit the Preclusion Immobiliser same principle but you dont know it is there it has no visible marks/signs only you know how to do it and fobs dont look like immobiliser fobs
so pick up point will behind dash somewhere only you know its there

why not fit the LED somewhere that isn't visible unless you know where to look, for example under the seat or behind an air-con vent? or you could just leave the LED out of the system altogether. still £200+ cheaper than buying the professional kit.

Think im going to give thise one a go.home made version that is.rac have a cheek charging that much lol.might try and come up with a system that sets off the alarm if the car is attempted to start without using the immobiliser(but still with the key).will give any scum bags a bit of a shock when they think there just about to drive off in your car.
Want good quality mirror finish smoked rear lights for you car? drop me a pm.
