with regard to hinge areas its a tricky one.
i have seen a few installs with problems relating to hinge and rear light cluster covers.
i would imagine that whatever design you come up with, its going to be flawed in some way.
in the before pic,(dark enclosures), the hinge area is erm, anonymous, just a basic neat and tidy slot, but in the present colour scheme this area is over large and grabs your attention, if you could soften this area, by changing the colour scheme,(black to white), and reverting back to the flowing lines of the first pic i think it would be a sterling job.
in the first pic this area has a clean appearance, like it was designed to look and fit in that manner,( which i imagine it was), in the second pic i get the impression it wasn't.
as before i'm being critical, please don't take offence, i'm just offering my humble opinion.
i did once ask a lad how he had made these cloth trimmed inserts that he had around his hinge brackets, they were like a shaped cushion that would deform to allow them to be fitted, once fitted they regained there shape, apparently his mother made them from high density foam,(seat cushion foam, but only 1/2" thick), she cut out the bottom piece, laid that in place, then cut out the next piece,(slightly smaller than the first), laid that in place on top off the first piece, and so on till she had made like a curved, shaped cushion filling the area, once covered they looked pretty good. suppose this useless bit of info may come in useful one day.
did you try having the orions enclosure white, or maybe just the top face, this may highlight the inverted sub a little more.
anyhow, well done, overall effect is cracking
