The theft of car audio and satellite navigation equipment is on the increase.

A team of three enthusiasts have created a unique website for the car audio community which allows people to register the details of their valuable equipment on a secure database, allowing potential buyers to check the authenticity of a piece of kit before buying it.

The aim is to make it so hard for thieves to sell stolen equipment, that your valuable audio and navigation equipment becomes much less of a tempting target.

Problem is, if its cheap enough people will buy it, stolen or not.

Great idea and I certainly wouldn't buy a stolen unit, but from the other point of view, if I was scummy - it's a powerful bargaining tool! 'Thats a stolen stereo' - 'well I'll knock £50 off'.

Why dont you register, and then enter what info you can, and report it stolen, at least then people can be on the look out for it.

head units have serial codes dont they? could you enter them or would that not work?
