The display on my standard ford radio (Sound 6000) fitted to my 97-Escort van has failed.

The displays back light still lights up as normal, but the actual LCD is too faint to read. From the drivers seat the display appears to be completely blank.
However, if you get your head right down in front of the LCD you can see the relevant display segments are powered but are very very dim.

I’m thinking it is either the LCD itself, the LCD driver chip, or possibly the conductive rubber strips between the LCD glass and the PCB.

Has any one had a similar problem? On a ford or other radio. And how did you fix it?
