i have just got a 52 plate astra sxi 3 door, it had a vauxhall standard tape deck in so i changed it for my alpine H/U i blew the fuse in the car first and replaced it and it was ok then the next day i had it up quite loud and my H/U turned off and wouldnt come back on but the over head display is still working so the fuse in my car hasnt blown. i assumed my head unit had blown until i tried another H/U in my car and that wouldnt turn on !
the only other thing that may be of any use is that when i plugged the tape deck back in there WAS power to the H/U but it was in safe mode so i will have to go to vauxhall if i want it unlocking.
might be wrong but i am guessing with you blasting the head unit you have melted one of the wires may be the ignition live have a check at them with a multi meter and find out.
if the amp in the head unit is over 50w it needs its own direct power feed from the battery
i have a 9812 i guess earlier than 9831 so therefore you should have read your instruction manual and wired a seperate fused power and earth supply to the battery of the car as the unit draw too much current for the standard wiring
no for some reason alpine reverted back to putting the power feed back into the iso plug, i personally would run a new earth (prob 17 amp cable) to the chassis keeping it as short as poss and would wire the yellow power cable off the 9831 to the battery direct so the only contact the hu is having with the car loom power wise is the switched live, speaker connections will not blow fuses either (obvious i know) also have you tried switching the ic power setting (internal amp) to off in the set up menu to see if it's a hu power supply prob
was there power at the standard unit with the ignition on or off
some head units require both permanent live and ign live to power up however some will work fine with just the ignition feed but not store any stations when the ign is off
