electrical nighmare in my astra...help please!!!

hi all. im having a bit of an electrical problem in my astra at the moment. while i drive during the day the date/ digi clock display in the centre console are lit up oragne...but when i use the headlights or flash the headlights it turns off could this be a problem with the earthing or a relay?

also the lights behind the speedo are very very dim and i cant see how fast im going at night because it hardly lights up (ive even got pulled over on sunday night for speeding coz i thought i was doing 30 but i was doing over 40 )

how easy would it be to change these LEDs behind the speedo, clock diplay and the temp setting under the clock display? i know evil on here sells LEDs and i might consider buying them

    cheers

    Aye, it's the dimmer!
The instrument display dims when you turn the lights on as well, even more with them dimmed.
It's the little horizontal dial under the headlight switch.
One dog goes one way and the other goes the other.
And this guy's saying, "Whaddya want from me?"

Does it turn off completely when the headlights come on? Then I'd say dodgy wiring, there's a wire not doing what it should be somewhere.

As soon as you turn the dimmer up the lights on the clock will come back.

If its a mk3 astra you need to remove the plastic around the steering column, and then the plastic around the clocks. Then undo the clock screws.
Go to the Gearbox, unscrew the speedo cable, and shuv it back thru the bulkhead a bit. Then you can get your hand around the back of the clocks, unplug the 2 loom multiplugs and the speedo cable. Then withdraw the clocks.
The Little lights are the green plastic 1;s, and are available from vaux.
