Personally I would go for a decent sub as I feel this is more important to the overall quality of the sound. The problem is that better, tho not necessarily bigger, subs usually need a fair bit of power so a cheap amp might struggle to run it.

Alternatively you could spend your money on a decent amp and just get a cheaper sub as a temporary measure until you can save your pennies for a better one. Mind you, there are a lot of reasonable subs out there for about £70-80. You could save your pennies a bit longer and get a decent amp AND sub. How big a budget have you got?

I guess this don't really answer your question but hopefully it will give you a few pointers.

One question, Why buy a cheap alternative to only replace it a few months down the line with a more expensive component, sorry if I don't see the logic behind the false economy????!
As you get older the toys just get more expensive.

id go for a cheap sub and an expesive amp to start with. then you dont end up damaging an expensive sub by under powering with a cheap amp.

if i could afford to buy good ones to start with i would. i want some sounds NOW, even if not the best sounding. then when i can afford decent stuff ill upgrade and sell the old stuff on. not all of us get handed money on a plate from our parents or land a well paid job ya know. :-)

I must agree with orbital on that one. You would be much more likely to hurt a sub with a crap amp than an amp with a crap sub.
If you can live without it for a wee while save your pennies and buy better. It is definately cheaper in the long run.

    .

Just get some decent 6x9s(or better yet kenwood 7x10s) and power them off your head unit. your not going to get total back shaking bass but it'll be probably be better quality then some crappy sub and then when you have the money you can buy a decent sub/amp and you'll still have decent shelf speakers.
    thats what I'd do.

i have to aggree don't waste your money buying crap gear only to replace it later on concentrate on getting some good front components and rear speakers such as the kenwood 7x10 which will sound good working off the headunit untill to get extra cash to buy a good sub and amps
    cheers

well ive got a good head unit (sony 4x50 watts) and some kenwood 4-way 6x9's which are pretty good, thats why i was just asking about subs and amps.

i reckon im just gonna save up for both at the same time.

    cheers guys
