1.2i head on a 1.4i Will this make it better or worse??
will it make it any quicker? I know it makes a differance on carb engines but wot about injection engines? Just wondering whether i shud bother coz i will have a full spare 1.2i engine soon out of a corsa. Mine is a 1.4i mk3 Astra.
yeah they are both single point engines. so raising the compression is better then, quicker? Should i just fit the whole top half of the 1.2i engine to my bottom half of the 1.4i engine? The corsa is an N reg. mine is a K reg, the engines look just the same to me. Will it be worth the hasle of changing all this or am i wasting my time?
If i could find an MPi top half then i wud fit that but i cannot find one in the scrappies.
My downpipe is a single pipe. Could i fit a twin down pipe off another car to make it better?
fs forum just ate my post so ill give u a summary version
the corsa head, decoked and skimmed, nova 1.4 SR camshaft (the astra one is lame), Nova SRi OR Astra 1.4/1.6 MPI manfold, Astra 1.4/1.6 downpipe and system
good for 5-10bhp
the more adventurous way:
nova 1.2 CARB head, inlet manfiold ported out to match head decoked and skimmed, nova 1.4 SR cam, Nova SRi OR Astra 1.4/1.6 MPI manfold, Astra 1.4/1.6 downpipe and system
good for 10-20bhp (nova head has much bigger valves and ports)
the nuts way:
nova GTE head and injection system, skimmed for compression and decoked, nova 1.4 SR cam, nova GTE exhuast manifold, astra 1.4/1.6MPi downpipe and system
prolly looking at a 20+bhp increase here since your basically building the mpi engine - ive just done the same in my nova using a 1.4 SPi block same as yours and im still running it in - have to say it feels rapid already tho (mpi has 85bhp as standard - spi has 60)
problem you'll have here is the nova GTE system CANT use a CAT so u really need to find an MOT station that your friendly with to get it thru the MOT - or try and blag it my saying its a full nova GTE engine uve got in there which they cant test for cat
the rest is upto you
PS (u can imagine how long the original post was now eh?? )
God u sound like u know ur stuff pretty well The easiest way sounds like a waste of time really to me, coz u don't get much more power out of it. But the nuts way sounds like it wud be worth doing, but cudn't i just go out and find a 1.4 SPi top half of the engine and just fit all that and then it wud have the same power as wot u just told me with the gte stuff? Probably wud be easier to do aswell.
If i went to the scrap yard and found an mpi engine, cud i just mark up the timing as u shud when changeing the cambelt then make sure it doesn't move and the mark up mine and then fit it straight on?? or is it differant in each engine? If you can do this then i think i will go and hav a look at the scrappy's.
