Just borowed next doors car cos theres something wrong with it and he wanted me to find out.
Its an Automatic (urgh) Carlton 2.0i
When i started it up, it was fine then at idle its a little bit rumbly........When you put your foot down the engine shakes and rattles
He reakons its only firing on 3 cylinders, But i think differ'nt.
I mean with 3 cylinders sparking, and the 4th not sparking theres just a loss of power right? no nasty horrible rattle and grumble
I'm thinking towards a stuck/bent exhaust valve, It just seems cylider 4 is fighting against the other 3.

you know for sure they are all sparking Spence?
I'd start off with a compression test. Maybe the head gasket has been breached between two cylinders?
He said he's checked all sparks, and its fine.
Thing is, I've had no spark on a cylinder with my Festa and it didd'nt rattle like that!
The breaching between 2 pots might be a posibility.
You know when you drive a car thats got a problem, you can usually visualise what the problem is.
It just seems as though when piston 4 rises its holding the others back
TBH its not my car, so i don't care, If he wants to leave it as it is then so be it.
I'll recommend a compression test as our Carlton died of lack of compression.
it will rock and grumble if it goes onto three, as it tensds to mess withe the blance of the engine, one cylinder being effectively switched off, do a compression test as said just to be sure, but it may be something as simple as an ignition lead/dead plug
