Radiator Fan Switch Help
94 L Plate Astra Merit 1.4 SPi
Having some problems with my radiator fan not turning on when the digidash goes up into the red.
Have changed the thermostat radiator switch but this has not cured it. I alos bridged the 2 wires in the plug that plugs into the switch like the haynes manual says but still no joy.
now i need to know that when the water heats the switch up and expands it, the contacts inside bridge, do they bridge to make a live circuit or a earth circuit?
If the radiator fan does not come on when you short the two contact in the radiator fan switch then you've either got a fecked fan or a blown fuse or something wrong with the wiring.
Vauxhalls normally (but not always) short the low side of the rad fan to ground.
Check for a permanent live to one side of the rad fan - my astra and cav both have a permanent live to the fan and a grounded switch to the other side.
Check the 30A fuses to make sure they have not blown and also check the fan is free to turn by hand (with the ignition off of course).
If the fan is not cutting in when you short the connector off the switch then there is either
-something mechanically wrong with the fan ie broke
-dodgy wiring after the swich to the fan.
Try giving the fan some power after the switch and see if it works.
fuses are fine, the fan is fine to *** i powered it up from the battery, will check wiring out later. cheers guys
does it have the black cap on the ignition module same as a nova? these can go fualty and cuase this, but on the nova this also stops the main incar fan from working!!
