After sorting out my moaning fuel pump, I have noticed a few strange things.
Firstly I have a massive smell of petrol inside the car. This occurs when the tank is fuel or empty. I think I have located it to the small thing inside the drivers wheel arch. It's right up underneath the suspension turret and has what looks like 2 breathers going to it. One breather hangs down and dangles at the back of the engine with a round rubber triangular end to it and I imagine the other comes from the fuel tank of something like that. Is this a charcoal canister, could it be causing fuelling issues and should it be leaking fluid when the cars parked up over night? Can I get rid of it?
Also what should I do with the vacum pipe that was connected to the fuel tank vent valve that runs to the fuel tank? At present its obviously disconnected from the vent valve as its no longer there but its still connected to what ever it is connected to at the other end.
My fuel relay is getting so damn hot. After just 2 mins of driving it is too hot to touch! I am suffering intermittent stalling at idle and I am wondering if it has something to do with the relay.
I have a fuel pressure gauge and the readings on it flicker back and forward on a split second basis by about 2/4 psi. Is this just the injectors opening and closing? The bloody gauge is leaking the fluid that fills the gauge area itself too.
I'm tearing my hair out with this motor at the moment.
