i was just wondering what the general perception if nitrous oxide was on this site now...
dont get me wrong im not looking for an arguement here i just want to know if the generaql opinion has changed since i and a few others have started to use this mod on the vauxhall engines with increadable results...
so what do you guys say??
NOS is BS power?
NOS will kill my engine?
it doesnt last long enougth?
its not as good as conventional tuneing?
its too expensive?
i dont know enoughth about it therefore i could damage something by fitting it?
i cant insure my car?
or maybe your opinion is.., yes i would fit it in the future
as ive stated i just want to know for my own uses
all opinions will be appreatiated
yup, i'm the same, i like building stuff, and i can see your point but i still dont like the gas running out! i dont hold the phase kits in very high regard but thats the way of the tuning scene, hey do sort of work for the money though, as nitrous does, still dont like either but there is no arguing the peak figures, each to their own i spose
Who cares about peak figures, nitrous is all about the area under the curve.
Only method of tuning that can match nitrous in terms of throttle response and area under the curve is an engine transplant, you cant acheive it with a turbo and you cant achieve with any N/A tuning methods either.
Its such a shitter that it runs out though
RDS
Im pretty confident TBH, i know people who have had 1380 turbos, and bore wall flex takes a long time to be an issue, the wall in my LET is still pretty thick TBH more so than a lot of linered engines are per liner anyway (only one cylinder is ever "using" the wall at once, if you see what i mean)
Have you ever actaully met anyone who has had a failure in a LET thats been attributed to bore wall flex, and if so what was the engine spec and mileage?
thats fine chip, if you think its hardly rocket science building a LET nova with a 6 speed, thats fine. I must assume sice you undid 10 headbolts, took a head off, replaced a gasket and bolted the head back down you must be an expert in modfiying LETs. Like to see you wire on up, modify engine mounts, make new cross member reposition hosing, redesign ties bars to fit under the F28 etc.
but no this is getting childish, I shouldn't retort. I know whats chips working methods are like thats fine.
I'm sorry I shouldn't have argued on in intenet forum about such things.
As for being busy sorry chip i look at the net for five minutes in the morning and 5 minutes at night, I have proepr work to get on with not sitting at my desk wathcing the internet go by
so your saying phase kits and nitrous are the same? by your thinking that makes nitros a cop out what i'm getting at is not everyone has the ability to map an ecu so the phase kits serve a purpose, but a phase kit cant run out of gas can it? you dont get half way through a race when all of a sudden the phase chip runs out of ram or whatever does it? now how was i saying they are the same?
tbh chip it gets on my tits that every time there's a thread about nitrous you jump on it telling everyone how good it is and that everyone should get it, even when they say they dont want/like it, ok nos is your thing, good, i'm happy for you, its not mine and never will be so please just let me not like nitrous, ta!
lmao lmao  well said mate..imagine running out of gas at that crucial moment??
nos is good, if done righ, and i dont mean whacking a 300bhp jet on a crappy 1.2 nova and epect it to beat cossies, skylines evo etc...the only thing it will beat is itself!! the engine!!lol but its not the only solution to a persons tuning needs!!
inform me observer, seeing as they produce so much torque at the std bore, why it be worth oversizing anyway, other than to repair a damaged bore. I wouldn't see 60cc making very much difference at all, well certainly not noticable on the road. When I stripped mine, it had done 78000, I inspected the bores, they looked absoluelty perfect, I glaze busted them and put new rings and bearings and reassembled it. Is it worth the few extra CC or not??
chip you seem very confident about your tuning methods...imo you are taking big risks if you damage the cyliner wal chances are you damage the pistons and some other bits....but hey if you can afford new blocks, pistons, shells, rods every few thousand miles good luck mate..all the best!!

there is no real point, due to bore wear mine wa srebored to 86.5mm a gain in 22cc from 1998cc to 2020cc that hardly anything...and to go to 87.5 is taking stupid risks..imo what the point? apart sayin oh look i have a 2.1 let!!lmao
the pistons I have in my LET are forged, I assume this is a factory standard item due to the fact its turbo charged. I would see the idea of a slight overbore if the picstons were of a crap standard, but bearing in mind vauxhall would of spent a good few million developing this engine, i doubt their forged pistons will be much worse than any produced by a secondary company
good, i am now rest assured lol
Mines done about 4000 miles with no sign of where whatsoever, the walls still look absolutely mint, only time will tell i guess, but its only going to be going to less than 7Krpm anyway.
Im not convinced that even with 400bhp (on very rare occasions) the walls will flex there is still a LOT of meat left on there, losing 1.5mm off the wall (half the diamter of each piston goes into each wall) is not a particular significant amount based on looking at it, but obviously i cant see where the water ways are to know how close the .75mm increase has taken it to them.
If it lasts 10K miles ill be over the moon to be honest and its well on its way to half that already with no signs of wear at all.
Chip
p.s
Rich wasnt just a head gasket i did at streetworkz, could have sworn you had seen pictures of it with the sump off at the time to be honest, but whatever, not even going to bother giving you details as ive been told that giving stalkers attention only encourages them.
Ohh you did the rod bolts as well, good idea I have ARP ones in mine too, cost 134 quid though, but I suppose thats the price of safety. Hope you did you sump up like a head, they tend to **** oil everywhere otherwise. Did you use sealant on them or not.
Rich
PS I found the 13 sumpbolts extremely diffcult to undo and do up as well lmao
Rich
Didnt have any trouble at all thanks rich.
Have had plenty of practice over the years with vaux sumps but even a decade down the line its still a pain, its not difficlt as such, just fiddly.
Not sure what your aiming at, maybe its trying to prove you have done more vauxhall sump gaskets than me?
I really cant see why you care about that, some sort of inferiority complex i assume?
Ive only ever needed to do about half a dozen or so probably on big block vauxhalls, so quite possibly you have chagned more.
Funny thing about you is that you think it somehow impresses people that you worked doing basic car maintainance for a while, you dont need to understand things to just unbolt them and bolt them back on, any idiot can work as a mechanic it doesnt require any real intelligence or education just practice.
Nurses change far more bandages and other boring mundane work like wiping patients arses when they shit themselves but no matter how many times they do it a doctor still always knows more, cause they have the education the nurse doesnt.
Rich, thats only the 3rd time on this board you have mentioned that once 3 years ago i didnt do the sump plug up when changing oil on my mini (at 8:00am on the driveway having been up drinkign the night before), and i didnt notice till i poured the through, well there you go, i made a mistake, big deal, that doesnt in any way detract from anything i know or any advice i give, just means that hungover first thing in the morning isnt the ideal time to do routine jobs that are so boring you arent concentrating properly at time.
Hardly seems worth sitting in your room with your feet in a bowl of custard mastrubating while thinking about it and looking at a photo of me though TBH (or whatever else it is you do to pleasure yourself while think about me)
Im sure anyone who has worked on cars a lot over the years has made equally silly mistakes, i can think of plenty of other things like that ive done, its always on the trivial jobs too, as i find routine maintaince very boring so my mind tends to wander, if im doign something more intricate though its not an issue, thats why i prefer tuning cars and modifying them to just basic routine mechanic jobs.
Im same in other aspects of my life too, at work if i make a mistake its always doing something mundane at the time.
wahoo, hes finally got bored of talking about me and found some other bloke to think about while he plays with himself.
Rich it was never about what me and you thought of each other, i havent brought up anything at all about you, all ive done is responded to your bull****, so if you will indeed now stop it like you say you will then that will end it totally as at no point has it been anyone other than you starting it, everyone else is in this thread cause either they are trying to inform others about nitrous or because they want to know about nitrous, or just simply to give their opinion on it, you were the only one who was in here for any "not adult" reason.
Well, if he actually had any accurracy to what he said it would be personal, as it is its no more than a novel based loosely around a real life character, LOL
Daft thing is we get on fine in real life, have done for years, we spent all saturday night the weekend before last propping up the bar at SMD till gone closing time downing jack daniels and coke (thats a point, its your round still rich from where you ran out of cash and me and AC kept paying, lol)
He just gets bored in the evening and rows with people on the internet, hes been doing it since before i met him and does it loads of places, not just where i go, so i dont take it personally, he used to keep getting banned from the mini chat room and only getting back in on the basis he was my mate and im ascociated with it through my site.
The funny thing was when he used to log in and pretend to be me all the time, within about 4 lines people knew who it was anyway because he just couldnt resist abusing them all instantly so they knew it wasnt me.
Hes gotta have a hobby i guess and he isnt doing anyone any real harm, besides its quite amusing sometimes.
