Ok next week Iím getting a Unichip fitted to my Ecotec by Velos. Can someone please explain how the Unichip works in relation to the existing ECU, my case Simtec ECU.
So the Simtec ECU learns immediately after its reset and changes itís values accordingly, this is what i've read anyway. So when I get the Unichip mapped it will be setup to the valves already in the Simtec ECU. Am I right thinking that the Unichip works in a closed loop with existing engine management, taking valves from Engine sensors, which are ultimately controlled by the Simtec ECU?
Now what Iím getting at if at a later date the Simtec ECU is reset (say the battery is disconnected), because now I have different signals been fed into the Simtec (due to Unichip) surely the Simtec will learn different to what it would otherwise. And because I now have different Simtec settings would it mean the Unichip settings would be out? In effect the values going around the loop (Unichip/Simtec/Engine) are wrong?
Obviously it must work else there would be huge problems every time people disconnect batteries ect. But if someone can explain how it works, and why any changes to existing ECU do not upset Unichip settings that would be great. Iím getting the Unichip fitted regardless, but my curious mind likes knowing how these things work.
