I replaced my turbo the other day after having it reconditioned and everything was going well until the last manifold stud, which happened to be the one in the middle
Not really paying much attention I was tightening the stud when the allen key fell out of the stud. Upon closer inspection I have now realised that the stud stopped going into the cylinder head and I was actually turning the allen key head thing on to the stud. There is now not enough depth for me to get the allen key into and undo it.
I am 99% sure the stud has gone in at the wrong angle.
Any ideas how I'm going to remove the allen key bit from the stud and then the stud? I was thinking of cutting the allen key bit off the stud and then removing the turbo. This should then leave me with about 1cm worth of stud sticking out from the cylinder head. Will I then be able to get some sort of stud extractor on it and remove it?
Assuming I can do this without any further disasters, will I simply be able to re-tap the hole and use a new stud?
Finally, does anyone know the size of the stud? It is 6mm. I know the allen key bit it 7mm but wasn't sure of the stud size. Also the tread size I need to re-tap would be much appreciated.
Thanks for any advice.
