My 20XE cav used to have 48 dellorto's. See my answers below:

Bin origional injection pump - is it an in-tank type or out of tank?
Either way you will have to mount Facet outside tank.
Will have to modify in tank plumbing if you have an in-tank pump (copper pipe where pump used to be).
Put a wire direct from fuse box live (with ign on) and run to wire on pump.
2. What happens with the fuel return pipe - do you just block it off ?
No you use it. connect to return feed from carbs.
3. Do you have to modify the tank in anyway - fuel pick up etc ?
See 1. Basically just make sure the feed reaches the bottom of the tank, pipe doesn't leak (so sucks well) and that pipe won't hit actual bottom of tank & restrict suction.
4. Finally - Do you have to use fuel filters with this pump ?
Open to debat. They have a very good fine one in it already which Syntec (importers/'The all knowledgable' for Facets) say is fine. - undo beyonet fitting to clean examine.
I never used another filter.
If so pre pump and post pump or juct post pump ????
I fyou would like the extra security I would stick one post pump so it gets anything the pump filter failed to.
I am surprised that you said to connect the return pipe up as most research i have done said not to connect it up - but there you go !!!. The pump is outside the tank by the way - so i wouldnt need to modify the tank ??
Just another question with respect to the wiring of the fuel pump - if you wire it to an igntion positive doesn't this mean that if you are in an accident and the engine stopped that the fuel pump would still be running ? Was just thinking from a safety point of view ??!!
you could wir in a mercury/piezo inertia switch, as fitted to most latervehicles, turns the batt/pump off if you have a big enough smack, gonna get one for mine after my crash sunday, pump kept runnin and emptied the tank all over the engine/road, lucily as i had just pulled away nothing was hot yet,but it made me think
