does the turbo on a let have to be water cooled or can i bypass it?the reason im asking is if i take the small pipe off the top of my rad that goes to my turbo water spills out but if i undo the pipe at the bottle after the turbo it just slowly rises to the top and trickles out, just wondering if this could be related to my overheating problem.
ah i get ya,the hose pipe will be on it tomorrow then, cheers.i tried running it without the expansion tank lid on but it just got hot and chucked the water out the bottle, would that happen if it had a bockage?
I would think that you can run the turbo for short periods without the water cooling and without sustaining any damage - provided that you have nice, fresh, synthetic oil.
Without proper oil flow the turbo can be damaged in SECONDS, but without water flow it can still go on, as long as the oil flow is OK. It goes without saying that the heatload on the oil will be greatly amplified, but there was a time when turbos had no water jacket, and they ran fine (had shorter lifespan, though!)
