    Coscast head rebuild

I want to build up a coscast head i have, what parts would be best to use, so i can get them all and them a mate will build it up for me? its going to be used in my Astra GTE 16V,

if anyone can list the parts i will need, as all i have the the head itself, that would be sweet.

I was thinking about uprated pistons, conrods, and injectors. or is it not worth all the hastle? mind you i wont be putting it together

    cheers

    john

The pistons and conrods go in the block not the head.

Uprated injectors are pointless too unless you have a way to map them to the engine.

no cam caps is potentially your biggest problem as the are matched during production.

Goto Vauxhall and ask them for everything that you need to build your head. Ask for a print out and then you'll have some idea.

(Its going to be alot of money BTW)

If you don't know whats in the head, how are we meant to know what you need?

Go away and ask your friend what you need. If he is building it up, he'll know what's missing!!

    pictures are good.

    or:

tell us what numbers are missing off the diagram above. The cam caps are the most important, but there is a way of trying to run them in. I forget what it is, but Animal knows. The cam caps are not numbered on that diagram, and are the 11 tops that hold the cams in place. They are fixed to the head casting with studs+nuts..

would it not be easier and cheaper to get a warped head and transfer all the necessary parts...?

You'll be able to get a complete engine for the sort of money that you will spend rebuilding the head.

What are you building the head up for, you said it was to go on your GTE 16v?? Cant you use all the bits from that if the head on yours is cracked or whatever??

Well, there is a way of running an old set of cams in them with some special lube to try and match the cam caps up. SBD can recommend a method of doing it..
