XE Picture Request
Ive got an oil leak somewhere under the main big radiator hose that goes into the front of the block near the thermostat.
its coming from somewhere UNDER that...
(although ironically this seems to have stopped since i crashed it )
Can someone show me a picture of possible places under there that could cause the leak? (possible engine out of car picture??)
It was dripping from wherever it was coming from, then onto the engine mount, then onto the subframe...if that helps.
That will be the camshaft oil seal. Its found behind the cam sprocket.Or it might just be the rocker gasket.
errr?pic? Not sure how to find that lmao
Not rocker gasket, brand new afew months ago..
Its easy Dave....just take off the cambelt cover.Ya can then look through the holes in the cam sprockets to see if there is oil leaking from the oil seals
Do you mean under the stat housing or below it, ie further down the block?
If its not coming from the camshft housing or seal and running down behind the alloy mounting then the only places left on that end are the crank position o ring or the oil pressure valve seal. Obviously the oil pump seal to the block too. Then the sump.
I did notice the oil slick in your accident pics.
The oil seals are the orange bits behind the cam sprockets
ta lads, will have a look while the engine is out next weekend.
this may help ; only did it since the timing was altered on my car....
Is this the leak Dave? http://www.miket.dsl.pipex.com/images/I~000048.jpg
Really must figure how to use the uploader sometime
erm, dunno lmao
May be. Cant see that cos of the design of the engine and the stuff around it.
All I can figure out is taht it drips off the bottom of the engine mount and down.
So it deftinely comes from higher up than that, and I cant see anywhere on the cambelt cover where its leaking OUT of that..
dude, erm. What you taken a picture of there? lmao
Last pic is the alloy sump sitting on a 4x2 timber, the others are progressivly panning up to the stat housing.
Come on Dave it wasnt that hard
you sure it isnt just coolant ? that stuff never dries, could easily be confused for oil, sitting on crap around the block.
Id had thought of that. Sure looks like Oil when on the end of the finger - there is still a big stain in the middle of the drive where the oil was aswell.

BUT - the oil level is going down, quite steadily. So thats gotta be first culprit.
So annoying though, nvr leaked before I changed the timing.
head gasket is there too. noones mentioned that.
a mate did, I chose to ignore it lmao

The more obvious places will be tried before that.
if it is, is that unusual for the oil actually come out of the block rather than mixing with the wateR?
all depends where the theoretical breach is.
best plan of action is a steam clean, see where it reapears.
Yeh, will try that. Cant actually get to that side of the engine at the moment with the mount being snapped and all.
not power steering fluid is it ? the pump runs right over that engine mount.
Dunno. 90% sure it was oil
If uve got a pic of the front of a late XE out of car Ill point where its dripping off.
