today i was sitting in my cav with it idleing in neutral, and i noticed a strange noise which dissapeared when the clutch was in. the noise isnt exactly loud or anything, infact you barely notice it, im just worried that it means something is gonna go! any ideas on what it is ??
this to me sounds like the common worn clutch release bearing, makes a rattle as it doesnt fully disengage the clutch when the pedal is up so the clutch plate is constantly in friction with the flywheel.
You can try and adjust the clutch cable to change the biting point, if this fails to prevent the sound then dont worry and continue driving until you feel the clutch getting significantly worse i.e very loud sound and then do minimal mileage with it in this state.
I did 20k on a worn release bearing and it was fine, but i changed it in the end for piece of mind.
Thankfully you should have a flat type flywheel making clutch removal possible without gearbox removal thereby making labour costs less unless u do it urself that is!
it could also be the gearbox mainshaft bearings aswell though, i'd whip the clutch out and swap the release bearing, then see if its one, if not get the bearings done in the box, cos if they go completely you'll smash every gear in the box, not nice!
