Those fiddling with computers would certainly know that willy-nilly handling of chips can damage them from minute & undetected static discharges.
I would expect companies like EDS to have the appropriate warnings in their instructions, although the early ones I've seen didn't mention this.
Lots of people here install and swap chips, then report all sorts of wierd problems. Does anyone use anti-static wrist straps, or at least touch the car's ground often enough to minimise voltage buildup?
Good point there John, especially considering the amount of static charge that is built up by brushing against seats/trim on the interior.
With computers I constantly earth myself by touching the metal case - I would do the same in a car.
