A year ago I had a petrol smell in the car, it started after the bodyshop took the filler pipes out to sort some rust out.
I fixed that in the end, though I never quite worked out how. I fitted a new 2nd hand tank and the problem went away. All well and good.
Last week when I was sorting the rattle out, in despair, I fitted a new tank. A new new tank. It didn't solve the rattle, but I managed to sort that out later anyway. I also lost the filler cap around that time.
Now I get a smell of petrol in the car if I fill the tank more than 1/2 and go round corners/accelerate. I brimmed it the other night and in the morning there was no smell. ie: it doesn't leak on its own.
On Sat Colonel K said he saw some petrol dripping out at the rear right hand side. Later he said he saw some spurt out of the fller cap (temporary one fitted).
So, does my theory sound good: its a tidal wave fuel washing up the filler pipes and then pissing out the top?
If I'm really stuffed then I'm going to paint bits of the pipe with Hammershite. The fuel will then dissolve this when it leaks out and I might have a chance of finding the leak.
