I'm going to be fitting my XE cylinder head to my LET at weekend and I need to get it skimmed. It has never been skimmed before apparently so will it be ok to have it skimmed and still run a standard headgasket. I know it sounds a stupid question but I need to know rather than cock it all up lmao
skimming is supposed to help flatten the surface so that it seals better, if the head has warped.
Of course in that case there might be other deformed bits in the head, which will not be fixed.
In my experience machine shops are all too happy to skim heads, without checking with a straightedge if it's really needed.
