    JamesE, your gearbox is F13CR, F16 is a big block engine gearbox.

    Tom, i think the FDR is in one if the serial identification numbers printed on the box. If anyone can tell me thiers i can break it up and tell you what it means... i think.

    Andy, 1 rev = 1 rev, not 4. 2 revs does = 4 strokes though. GR = gear ratio, and FDR = final drive ratio. These can be found in the haynes manual for the car the engine/'box came from.

    Making me curious now...
    Astra GTE 8v
    fdr=3.55
    gr= 3.42, 2.16,1.48,1.12,0.89

    wheels: 185 55 R14 = 0.56m diameter
    so in 2nd gear
    mph/thousand rpm = 117.09 x 0.56 / (3.55 x 2.16)
    => mph/thousand rpm =8.55
    so for a 6600rpm limit that's 56mph (8v GTE)
    and for a 6800 limit that's 58mph

    As a matter of interest, rev limited max speed is
    137 mph and 141mph for 8v and 16v GTE.

    Thumbs up

    Well then given the initial estimate of 55 in first I think my guesses weren't too bad at all.

    4th?
    5th?

    Your turn.

    When I said to someone on here about 5 months ago I had 136 on the speedo at just under 7000rpm, and I was told my speedo must be out by about 10% because an 8 valver can't go that fast.....

    I am more sure than ever that something has been done to my motor before I got it.........
