    Severe overfuelling

My sisters cally (20XE) is overfueling big time. Its basically choking on petrol.

I have had a good look over the engine, no air leaks anywhere. The ECU light isn't on either.

It isn't the temp sensor cos I changed it.

I haven't touched anything on it, it just refused to run properly one morning.

    I am thinking either:

    Duff AMM or
    Duff FPR?

Any gen on it, anything else I should look for?

    John.

a garage could check the fuel pressure via that handy shrader valve at the passenger side of the fuel rail.

one would hope a duff air flow metre would throw up a fault code.

could you find someone with an XE and swap major engine sensors, trial and error ?

Disconnected the AMM, didn't wanna start at all.

Will disconnect the temp sensor and see if it makes a difference at all. Can't see it being that, if it were I would have been a loose connection and I have tried wiggiling the connections.

Mine ECU works, it comes on with the ignition, goes out after the engine has started.

IF you have lamba sensors, these can go faulty, but not enough to throw up an ecu code/light.

Doesn't the ECU ignore all lamda readings until the engine is at normal operating temps??

    Info here

Under acceleration or during the warm up period, the system goes into 'open-loop' operation and a richer mixture is allowed to prevent hesitation.

I have tried to run it twice now, both times the engine idles better when its cold, but goes progressivily worse as it warms up

Try a continuity test on the ecu temp sensor wires.
