been trying to think about the best way to do this for my manta.
I'm thinking about buying a dirt cheap XE then 'converting' it to run a turbocharger. it may be cheaper to just go out and buy a cheap LET but i've had a few thoughts.
LET pistons, ARP rod bolts, keeping standard XE crank (i think the LET crank is different?) and flywheel. i think there may be some modification to the actual block needed to run a turbo but i'm not sure.
A bit of DIY headwork and an overhaul, unsure about camshafts as i know the LET exhaust camshaft is different and whether i could stay with the standard XE exhaust camshaft or fit an LET one.
As for the inlet manifold i'm guessing run an LET one
The exhaust manifold i'm thinking about having made up especially because a standard LET item with the turbocharger attached would be exactly where my engine mount wants to be!
Possibly running a different turbocharger from the standard KKK16, and having it fitted to a custom manifold (i've heard not many people rate the standard manifold anyway)
Also engine managment may be an interesting one doing it like this, i guess to get it all to work i'd need to go for an aftermarket setup?
If i'm talking carp excuse me, i'm just putting my thoughts down and seeing if theyre possible or not, at least this way i could build it up gradually.

its cheaper to buy a c20let, trust me becasue I was going to convert my c20xe but instead bought a c20let (but then spend a load on reconditiong it, so still spent a lot of money).

yes the c20let crank is differant to the c20xe

yes you need 2 extra ports on the bottom of the block, a oil inlet and oil outlet for the turbo charger. The c20xe block already have these, but they are blanked off.

for cam mods, you need a c20xe inlet and a c20let outlet, or stay std and fit all the cams from a c20let

inlet manifld is th same, but the throttle body is different, the c20let throttle body has an extra pipe hole or too.

could always keep the std motronic 2.7 ECU and buy a Phase kit or V-max EVO kit. For the aftermarket ECU will cost a load, plus you still need a engine loom and sensors yet (the c20xe could be 'modified' but it s alot of hassle)
Cheers for the replies. was just a thought i had so i could slowly build up an engine, if i started off with an LET i could then always just get a custom exhaust manifold made up for it. Could always buy an LET in need of a rebuild and then strip it down and build it back up again. Cheers
