please help me. My 1990 cav gsi's fuel pump will not work, i have tested the pump and it works. the relay is good have tested it aswell , but i cannot find a fuse. also when i put my power probe on either the blue/red or the brown wire at the pump they both show as earth when the ignition is on or off.
i dont quite understand how you can have earth on both wires, and then be able to actually measure this fact. do you mean theres continuity if you bridge the two wires with your multimetre ?
at the pump, the thin red wire with blue trace is the 12v + from the fuel relay, the brown is the earth.
get your multimetre and go back to the fuel relay, stick the black lead to the shell, stick the red lead to the red/blue wire in the relay (with the relay plugged in). switch on the ignition, you should get +12v or more. if you do, then there must be a problem between the pump and relay.
stick your red lead onto the fat red wire at the relay too, this wire comes straight from teh battery so that should show 12v too.
i think there is a fuel injection fuse, cant you just look at the rear of the fuse box lid to see which one it is?
i dont have a multimetre anymore, lent it to someone never got it back. i have been using my power probe.
with the ignition switched off the red/blue shows earth. the brown shows earth, when i put a 12V positive feed down the fuel pump(red/blue) it comes alive( buzzes) but it will not do it using the ignition. i no the relay is fine because i swapped it with my spare cally one which runs.
I cant find a fuse in the fuse box for it, does any one no where it it. some one suggested it was in position 11 which is labled FI but fuse is fine
i have no more fuses in the black box under the bonnet where the relay is
