    Question cat replacement gen?

I was looking at getting a full exhaust system for my cav, but I knoticed one had a cat replacement pipe, and it said that it would fail the MOT.

I thought, wtf, what's the point in advertising that? No one's going to buy it are they if it makes the car fail, or having to piss around every year to change it back.

I wondered has anyone got a system with a cat replacement pipe? Any way around it gen? I know your car has to be made after Aug 1992 or summint for the law to apply.

    absolute crap.

Peopel have this weird thing where they read in a mag that says aug 92 means you have to have a cat. You don't.

You just need to pass the emmisions test.

    easy geeze, I just wondered.

Does not having a cat make your emissions high enough to fail you then?

As Chris_H42 says, you don't need a catalyst after '92 but you do need to pass the emissions test - and I'd very much doubt u would, unfortunately.

Cats only remove 0.7% of CO emissions, not a big percentage really.

I have a 1994 astra with at the moment a 1.8 16v ecotec engine, this requires a cat and I doubt it would pass an emmisions test without it.
I will be fitting a 20ex when I finish sorting it, that was from a 1989 car and I have the log book with engine number to prove it.

I have spoken to my local MOT testing station and they in turn have checked with the Authority, the upshot is that I can have my car tested as what it is (94 and whatever regs were in force for that year) but the engine tested with the pre cat emmisions values. Hence I will be fitting a cat replacement pipe.

So they have to likes of me to sell them too

Others will remove theirs until testing time and have it replaced just before the test.
