Headlights on MK2 Astra won't switch off???

A mate of mine's astra headlights won't trun off. Only way he can get them to go out is to pull the fuse on them.
Thought it might of been the switch but swapped it today with one I got for him from a breakers & the problem's still there.

    Any ideas???

the one behind the ash tray isnt the dim dip relay, its the headlights on warning relay.

    Doh, srap that one then.

Look for a black heatsink on either the back of the fusebox like mk3 cavs or behind the glovebox on the left like Mk2 cavs.

    i

It bloody is I tell you, because cars that have dim dip have this box, but not a warning relay (Novas, etc).

Reach up behind the ashtray and unplug the pointless device.

The headlamp on buzzer is in the fusebox.
    They're there, in their room.

well the only proof i have is taking it off of the back of my ashtray, then looking up the part number in EPC and it saying head light on warning relay (NOT BUZZER), and my dip dim still working with it disconnected, and the headlights on warning buzzuer not working with it disconnected

but apart from that, just a guess.

Looks like the EPC could be wrong, my opel was never fitted with the dimdip thing (european) and I still have that "angry wasp" lights on buzzer
Own a Mk2 Astra? Check out Astra-Mk2.com then.

their descriptions have always been misleading.

the fact that it says vauxhall only backs up the Uk models were the only ones fitted with dim dip.

It also says transformer which is kinda what dim dip is.

That's why its got bloody great heatsink cooling jobbies, it's got 110W of power goping through it (55W for each head light) and it has to halve the voltage to make the head lights a bit dimmer. I suspect you upset some wiring to the buxxer 0dders, and you were looking at the sidelights, not dim-dip 'proper'.
I took (read: left out by mistake) the unit above on Sharon Antibes (which doesn't have a buzzer) and the dim dip stopped working.
    They're there, in their room.

err odders on that EPC diagram number 12 is the Dim dip module not 11 the relay.

This device is an EU requirement to stop the driver having no lights at all, but when on sidelight to give a small amount of light.

two screws behind the ashtray undo them then feel behind and take it off.

mike hayward-On the EPC pic that oddball posted item 11 is the dim dip thingymajig, item 12 is a screw! and item 10 is a relay.
I had problems with the lights on a nova sr i had years ago,all i did was unplug the dim-dip wotsit and all was ok again, exept i didnt have the dim-dip function which is totally poinless anyway, and the MOT man never said a thing so he either didnt notice or it doesnt matter, try unpluging it and see if it works ok.
