Has anyone compared the two?
Ever since I've put the head back, I've got this weird oil-smoke thing, that I don't think is related to the turbo.
It only on deceleration, as in when coming to a stop (say at a junction). We're talking an oil cloud, and if the wind is the wrong way the whole car inside stinks.
When I put new valve stem seals from AutoVaux, and I did feel that the quality was questionable. A couple disintegrated as I was pushing them in place, and I had to order a few new ones. I pushed them gently by hand, then a socket. Couldn't stop thinking what will happen if others break apart while the engine's running. (The tiny round coils break loose)
In my experience, this sort of smoking could be caused by fooked up stem seals.
I took off the throttle 'hat' and there is some oil puddled at the bottom of the inlet manifold
The car could be idling for hours on end, there's no smoke from the turbo seals whatsoever. Also around the DV there has been no oil mist AT ALL
I don't buy this 'thin Mobil1' sheet, but I'll use 15w40 next time just to eliminate that possibility.
The turbo was reconed and fitted with obsessive attention to detail. Breathers, pipes, gaskets etc are all exactly as they should be.
The head was stripped and redone again with ultra attention to detail.
The pistons/rings were left untouched as the bores were A-OK.
