coscast head (dense pressure cast alloy)
13mm valve guides (nice thick walls, GM heads 11mm)
bigger valve seats (handy if you want oversized valves in future or recut the seat)
forged pistons (late engines were cast)

light weight crank (late ones couple more KG)
lighter 7.2kg flywheel
wider high grade big end and main bearings
nitrided cams
sodium filled exhaust valves
shorter ratio first gear

they brought out the mk2 astra gte 16v back in 1987 which an E plate i think.
