and its still ****ed...in fact somehow its worse now and i cant get into gear without wrestling it in.
so its not the clutch, clutch cover, release bearing as all have been replaced at least twice
my theory, hence the post, is that the input shaft is moving hence the friction plate is dragging.
the clutch mechanism disengages ok (press pedal and cover compresses enough) but obviously the friction plate isnt moving over.
is was all greased up and it went bang when i braked hard to free it up, but its still shite trying to get into gear.
gearbox gone? its the only thing thats not been replaced really, plus the input shaft has been mullered 3 times now
nar f20, but it never was in the best of health
so you think theres logic there? i am shattered, done 2 clutch changes this morning, and wasnt sure if my logic was sound lmao
engine off it goes into gear ok, which always shouts clutch problem to me, but i have actually had 4 variations now with a brand new friction plate, 2 LUK covers, half worn friction plate and the old 8v...but they didnt really slip TBH and i could get the power down alright i suppose. it just went wrong over 100 and trying to get into gear on the move with reverse being out of bounds till you switch the engine off.
I know you'll think I'm daft and admitidly I know nowt about cars let alone gearboxes but my calibra was doing that last week, found that the clutch arm thingy on the gearbox had split, had it welded up, adjusted the clutch cable and all is fine, infact it feels a load better than before it split.
yeah thats all solid mate, the whole linkage moves the clutch splines in fine, its just the friction plate isnt able to disengage properly, so i reckon the input shaft is moving back n forth as its ****ed TBH
I am experiencing exactly the same thing in my nova.
I went to France a couple of weeks ago, and whist blatting it around, I sudenly stoped going into gear. I've replaced the clutch and taken the box out, checked it over and replaced the bearing, but the clutch is now just slipping. For the odd 5mins it will grip, but then I just continues to slip again.
yeah this all started while i was racing
yours sounds like the adjustments gone awol tho if its slipping on a new clutch, i actually have a new cable on its way to me as i thought mine had stretched or summat, but i dont think its that anymore. was only 8 quid from autovaux and handy to keep in the garage anyway.
what clutch you using anyway? i aint sure the standard luk can handle 200bhp all that well as i have gone thro a couple now
thats not the problem really, and where am i gonna get a gearset i can trust? i have taken one apart before, takes more than 45 mins, and am filthy enough as it is lmao
plus i wanna change the whole thing just to be sure, as i seem to be buying things that i dont need at the minute and its a million times easier just to swap boxes and be sure. cheaper too.
i have gone thro an f16cr on the 8v and then an f16w and f20 with the xe lmao
tho i didnt break the f16w it was just so badly suited to the engine i ditched it...gonna use the FD in (yet) another f20 for giggles, but its not gonna be my daily driver by then as i dont fancy sitting at 4000 revs @ 70mph
yes i do, although i had to put the LUK one back in as this one didnt give enough pedal travel on the release bearing (you can tell i had a good morning with all this eh lmao) so i suspect its for the pot fly....or a volvo or summat lmao lmao
you are welcome to it if you want to have a go
