    Temperature Sensor on C20XE Engines

As i was reading in a previous thread, there was a reply suggesting the Temp sensor controls the fuel/Air mixture like a choke.
On this theory, could the temp sensor be at fault if the engine is crap when cold (pull away and very sluggish),i.e, the ECU thinks the engine is warm hence not enough fuel and less air?????

The temperature sensor increases the fuelling if it thinks the engine is cold. So yes, it could also think the engine is warmed up when it is in fact cold, and therefore underfuel.

    Question

i have only just bought my car. it was giving the guy at the garage problems, ie no control on air flow. several air flow meters later(and one or two wrecked cars) he thought he had sorted it. however, a few hours later he had to tow me in. the car just wouldn't start. tried the alarm and immobilisers in case they were causing the problem. ransacked someone elses gte but nothing. having now read the bulletin on here about the car thinking the car is warm and therefore deciding that it didn't have to push plenty of fuel through, could this be whats wrong with mine? the guy at the garage hasn't got a clue so any help would be gratefully received and then i might actually get some happy motoring out of my new car.

when it does run, does it sound ok? done a compression check? (although you are right to investigate leccy fault first i would say)

yep it seems to run fine. i'm starting to think i should have stuck with me little 1.1 fiesta instead of going for something a bit sporty looking! i'm getting annoyed with it now. i've owned the car for 24hrs and 30 mins and as yet i've not even driven it! don't suppose someone could tell me what its actually like to drive an astra gte?

1st Things 1st, remove a spark plug and get someone too watch the plug whilst it is resting against the engine block, make sure your getting a spark to start with.

if the car will no longer start at all, and youve replaced the fuel pump relay, then i suggest the crank sensor, if shafted this will cause no life.

First of all though check that:
    1) you have a spark
    2) you have fuel
disconnect the fuel pipe from the fuel rail and look to see if you have fuel pissing out when you try to start the engine.
A common failure is the fuel pump relay. The relay is usually situated on the passengers side front suspension turret. A small black relay like thing.

well they have taken their time but it's sorted! it wasn't the ecu as they first thought it was the little temp switch. so i'll be off for my first drive very shortly. thanx to all who replied, u managed to stop me putting it up for sale.
