I need some advice regarding my 1996 model Opel Kadett 200 ts. I think it's aka a mk3 astra on that end of the globe. It's got the C20LET engine.
I just bought the car recently and I'm having a few problems-was hoping you guys might be able to offer some advice.
The engine management light is permanently on and returns error code 42- 1st gear recognition-voltage too high.
I took it into a reputable tuning shop and they supposedly replaced a faulty switch/sensor on the gearbox. It was fine for a day and the next morning the light was back on...
The car has a few modifications done as far as I can see:
1) Cone filter
2) Adjustable fuel pressure regulator
3) Bigger intercooler
4) Some sort of aftermarket dump/blow-off valve to atmosphere that makes a lovely whooshing noise ;-)
5) Silicon hosing around the FPR.
That's about all my untrained eye can see. I think the previous owner was trying to up the boost. It is currently running on 0.5 bar max boost making 115kW and 220 nM on a RR.
The tuner told me that the current exhaust (57mm I think) is too restrictive and I should get a 76mm free flow fitted.
My immediate concern is the management light though. What could be causing this besides the faulty switch?
The OBC reports some strange readings as well - avg speed is always less than 20km/h, fuel usage is very very high..
Also the choke seems to come on for way too long and the car idles at 2500 rpm while the choke is on.
Is my ECU cooked? Does the car need to be chipped because of the mods done, or is it already chipped? How do I tell?
So many questions...
Apologies for the long post, use of the metric system, and any other ignorance displayed
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
