I've heard different stories about these units - everything from 'they are rubbish' through to 'good bit of kit'...
I understand there is an issue with one of the tracts on the manifold being restrictive aswell - in what way exactly?? Can it be opened out with a die-grinder, or is it unreachable?
And at what pointy does this 'restriction' become an issue???
So, what are the facts - and what are the options for upgrading, especially as the manifold forms the turbine housing?
How much boost pressure will they reliably hold, how long do they last, etc...
Finally - i've only glimpsed at one of these turbos before. What is that extra 'valve' unit in the compressor housing outlet? I've never seen one before!!!
Incidentally, the engine i'll be putting together will be a turbo'd XE. It'll be running dished pistons, some form of undercrown cooling, a specially fabricated plenum using straight taper runners and a single throttle body along with full engine management.
I'm after a genuine 280hp, this should be easilly achievable, don't you think???
