where's 5th gear??!!?!
i have an F20 gearbox, and it won't find 5th gear... well, i can force it into gear just...
I've adjusted the linkage and it finds all the other gears perfectly.
anyone got any ideas?? i done a search and found someone saying something about 3 plates?? but got confused
5th gear is on its own under the end plate through the passenger wheel arch, pictured here on the right...
has its own clutch and hub assenbly, maybe this is jamming or failing.
what'd be my best bet?? whip the end cover off and look? is it possible to replace it?
or should i just be considering a new gearbox??
what is the thing with the 3 plates? under the linkage?
cheers for your help...
thats the hub and clutch, it basically slides fore and aft engaging the 5th gearset.
you could whip the end plate off see if its working properely. will have a slight fluid loss.
This happened on one of my old novas.
After pissing about with the linkage when the engine and box were out.
I had to push the gear stick down as i went for fifth gear and it went in fine.
Could be different for an astra as they have lift up reverse rather than push down
could be worn or damaged finger selectors undr the turret on top of the box?
i will check all of the above things out tomorrow.
how easy is it to get parts for a gearbox?
