Is it worth getting vernier pully's with standard cams?
I'm only enquiring because my engine is in bit's at the mo. Can the cam timing be altered to produce a gain on the XE? It's just that when my Astra will eventually go up to Dave Walker's for mapping, I don't really wan't him to say "If you had vernier pully's on I could have played around with the timing and got you an extra 10bhp!", you know, that kind of thing!
manufacturers' timing is typically off by a few degrees, as is their view of the TDC position.
So if you have free time on a dyno you can optimise the cams (you may have to retard them a few degrees, but you never know in advance).
Not worth the aggro IMO, but then again it's not inconcievable to find another 5bhp out of thin air!
I would get them - especially if you're getting Mr Animals and so a set at a resonable price. It will allow you to get it spot on (all engines are different therefore OER ones will just be for the norm) as well as a bit pf planning for the future.
