Okay, when I bought the car, I immediatly found it had a blown head gasket. That cost me £250 to have fixed.
But, I now notice another problem. Sometimes, the engine seems to shudder, as if it misfired. Most the time when that happens it's just a light shiver running through the car.
Sometimes when that happens, the engine stops.
Worryingly, it happens when driving, not just when Im stationary. When it happens when Im driving, the whole car seems to "jolt", not just shiver.
It seems to be worse when theres even the slightest amount of damp in the air.
Its had new spark plugs, new idle valve thingie (cant remember precisely what the mechanic called it), new timing belt...
I cant afford any more visits to the mechanic. Im hoping you guys have an idea.
Before you suggest, Ive tried the paperclip trick on the ECU, as I found on TopBuzz. I put the clip in the two holes, turned the engine on, and... No error codes. A local mechanic has also plugged in some kind of computer to it, again, no error codes.
Someone said "Its this" pointing to a small black thing under the coil. The Ignition Amplification Module, I think it is called. Is it likely? I hope not, a local spares store wants £60 for a new one.
