Recently my XE lump suddenly lost all oil pressure and I figured it could be the oil pump. I have now changed the oil pump and fired it up last night and there is full oil pressure on the gauge at idle. Then as the temperature goes up the oil pressure drops to halfway and won't even go up when revving the car. The engine reaches its operating temp (on the gauge) much quicker than it used to and when I came to open the bonnet it was that hot I couldn't get my hand in to open the catch (this was only after 10 mins running from cold) Also getting a bit of a whining noise from the cambelt side of the engine.
Really puzzled now? Any ideas on what the problem could be?
