Question How does everyone remember oil changes?

The car did its 80,000th mile today and I realised that I can't remember when I last changed the oil. It wasn't that long ago but I can't remember when.

How do you remember when to change it?

Mine gets done about every 1500miles, it's done with the kind of frequency you don't get a chance to forget

As part of a service history, it's nice to have notes, and receipts for oil when the oil change is due

you need but a adhesive in the windshield, marked in what miles you changed the oil, and you plus how many miles you want with new oil, and add from in the miles roaded, and when arrive in this mile, you will se in adhesive, and you know, you need change the oil.
i change my oil every 3.000 miles, or when the oil get bad visosity or contamination.

It needs doing before Coombe. I should do it this weekend really, then I'll know I did it at 80,000 miles.

Something else to do this weekend then

My car gets a constant oil change. It leaks about a litre per month, so every weekend I top it up with oil. Fortunately I get 5 litres of FS Castrol SLX for £10 from one of my "contacts", otherwise it would get expensive.

    Spreadsheet.
I list of the mileage and jobs done, then another list of mileage and jobs to do at that mileage.
Then when something is done its shifted to the 'done list'.

I used to do that before I fixed the leak - annoyed the hell out of me though.

Feckin ell! Changing oil every 1500 to 2000 miles?!?!?!?!?
I thought I was generous doing mine every 6000!
There are some seriously well maintained cars here.

I remember mine because I write in the service book and have it stamped.
    They're there, in their room.

well, its depends so much of the quality of oil and the engine. Turboed engines normal get badder the oil much more fast than N/A engine, because work in more rich mixture, and the oil lubrificante the turbo too, and its work in so high temp.
Sinthetic oil can running the double or more than a mineral oil.

    Cheers,

my engine is so advanced it tells you when to change the oil. The way it works is from cold start if the tappets make a noise, you oil needs changing.

Same here too. I also list any mods done so I know how long they have been on the car and even when it was washed & waxed - sad but true I know. At least when you sell the car it shows it has been well cared for

I just change the oil every other month or so.
I also have a sump gasket leak, so the oil warning light serves as a useful reminder.

I change mine when it's starts to go dark in colour. I use Comma 10W40 (£8.99 for 5 litres, winner) or sometimes they get proper Vauxhall 10W40 in for about £11.99. Don't really go off mileage on my turbo, I check the oil and coolant every single time I go out in it anyway.

Regular oil changing is more effective than expensive oil. I use Comma 10W40 also, about £10 per 5 l.
