Valve removal help!
Ive been trying to remove my valves today but had a total nightmare. They are stuck fast, I even broke my valve spring compressor in the process. Any ideas or should I take it to a pro?
The cap usually gets a bit stiff in the collets. Just tighten the compressor up a bit and if it doesn't ping free give the compressor a light tap at the spring end.
Remove collets when you have enough clearance. Take of compressor. Remove spring cap, spring, and seat if there is one, then just push out the valve.
Job jobbed. (I get bored after 8 valves though... lmao )
Couldnt get the comressor to compress the spring, valve cap must be very tight around the collets. My compressor was a draper one. thought their tools were ok, obviously crap.
As Chris said if i feel like its tight i usually give the spring compressor a quick knock with a rubber mallet. It usually sorts the problem out
1. Make sure that the compressor is well oiled and everything moves freely
2. Make sure that the two sides of the compressor are placed precisely where they're meant to be
You DO have the right compressor for that head, don't you?
I had the right one, It had the right angled part on the top to reach into the head. think it must have been a duff one.
Im in ireland all week so i'll get a new one and have another bash next weekend.
if they are really stiff, then get a suitably sized socket and give the top of the valve spring a clout and then use the compressor, this should help to un seat the collets
